Training of Trainers

 4change has designed a unique Training of Trainers' approach. It is based on sound adult learning principles and focuses on a transformative process aimed at expanding participants self confidence in using advanced and participatory training and facilitation methods as well as applying good practice in planning. 

ToT's 6 Different Modules

A ToT can include all six modules or be a blend of selected aspects  to respond to the different needs and goals.  

I. TRAINING CYCLE

  • Specific outputs and tools for the  5 different phases: Training needs assessment report; learning domains and learning objectives; curriculum;   training material; agenda; budget; customary satisfaction questionnaire; survey; impact evaluation; evaluation report; final report

I​I. ADULT EDUCATION

  • Rules of adult learning
  • The challenge of approaching adults in class
  • The "defensive reasoning"
  • Motivating and engaging adults 
  • Create environments/classes conducive to learning

III. TRAINING METHODS AND TOOLS

  • Key training methodologies: lecture; role-play; case study; simulation; discussion; working groups
  • Key training devices: PowerPoint; flip chart; hands out; audiovisuals

IV. SELF AWARNESS

  • Awareness of inner potentials 
  • Overcome personal limits
  • Thinking out of the box
  • From personal transformation to community changes

V. THE TRAINER AS LEADER

  • Different approaches to leadership
  • The new skills of a leader: Mature empathy, active listening, respect for diversity, creativity, genuine happiness, responsibility and kindness
  • The trainer as leader of the learning process
  • Managing complexity and changes in class
  • Application of different style of leadership in class 

VI. COMMUNICATION AND CLASS FACILITATION

  • Intercultural  communication
  • Communication blockers
  • The facilitation flow
  • Types of communication

Some activities carried out

  • ToT for League of Arab States Members of the Task Force (UNITAR, Cairo, 2019).
  • Nigerian Peacekeeping force,(NAPC Jaji, Nigeria 2015).
  • UN Course on Security Sector Reform (UNMISS, Rwanda, 2013).
  • ToT for Military, Civilian and Police Personnel coming from East African countries and expected to be deployed in Peace Support Operations (EASBRICOM, Ethiopia, 2012).
  • UN Natural Resource Management in Peacekeeping Operations (UNITAR, Egypt, 2010).
